La Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Familia or The Sacred Family is not your typical church--From afar it looks like melting wax candles and the color is not the gleaming white I've come to expect of Baroque churches.  No, it is quite unique, the exterior sculptures are angular and chunky and yet the scenes from the life of Christ were so touching and full of emotion.

The Details
Address: Carrer de Mallorca, 401, 08013 Barcelona
Hours: 9am-6pm, 9am-8pm April-Sep
Cost: 13.50e/18e guided
Time: 50 minutes to 2 hours

As odd as the exterior is, once we walked inside I was overwhelmed by its light airiness.  It is beautiful and open; the stained glass is so colorful.  It inspires the mind heaven ward.

The church was begun 131 years ago in 1882 and still is not complete.  It is being paid for entirely by donations and when I asked when it would be completed I was told, not for another 20 years.
