Balboa Park, named after the first European explorer to see the Pacific ocean, was a city beautification project begun clear back in 1892. Many of the Spanish styled buildings seen today were built for the 1915 Exposition. The park encompasses 1200 acres of park, museums, zoo, theater venues and other civic buildings. There is a host of activities  to keep you busy even if it is just for just a stroll.
