Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi

The Grand Mosque is indeed a spectacular holy place of worship. The pristine marble, reflecting pools, domes and palm trees make this place feel like a desert palace right out of Aladdin. In my own church we build temples. Different from our weekly meeting houses, no expense is spared in building the place we believe is a house of God. The mosque felt to me like a temple. It is clear much pride and care went into the planning and execution of the building from the imported tile decorations to the massive chandelier hanging in the main prayer hall.

One of my favorite decorations in the mosque is a giant wall which has, written in Arabic, the all the titles and attributes of God. It spoke to me--it is an idea that we share, that is unifying. What an awesome reminder, as you kneel before God/Allah, that He Mighty, Benevolent, Kind, All Knowing etc.  There is one tile left blank for the attributes we do not know or can not describe in our human language.

Free guided tours are offered daily and last about 45 minutes, click here for times. Women must wear abaya's and cover their heads--these can be rented onsite. Men must wear long pants. Enjoy my photographic journey through the Mosque.
